Academic drawings

06-03-2020

Achilles De Maertelaere studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of Ghent, from 1894-1895. He was then only twelve years old.

Some of his drawings have been preserved in the archives of the KASK. Achilles regularly won first prize. He was clearly very gifted.

One of his drawings now hangs in the very beautiful exhibition "Strike a pose: nineteenth-century academic nudes in Ghent collections", which you can visit for a few more days, until 14 March, in the Vandenhove Pavilion in Ghent. Open on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 2 to 6 pm.

Worth a visit! You can admire Achilles De Maertelaere, next to big names of Ghent art, like Felix de Vigne, Jean Delvin or Eugène Verboeckhoven
